Sooooooo......

My neighborhood file is corrupted. That's why the game doesn't recognize it and neither does SimPe. The size had been cut down to only 96 bytes which is nothing at all! I have no idea how this happened as I haven't installed any new cc or done anything differently. So where do I go from here? Since I can't access the neighborhood in SimPE, I can't extract my characters and just recreate Crystal Bay. I get attached to my sims and their personalities and I just don't think I could remake them either. It wouldn't truly be them.....so what do I do? Create another hood? I don't know if I even want to do that......this is the second hood I've lost!!!! And this time it was on a new laptop! I fear I'm cursed!!!! I still have the urge to sim, but I don't know how to proceed. Make a new hood? Play with a maxis hood? I just don't know.......any advice?

  1. I had to restart SimsVille 3 times! 1ste there was something wrong with my computer, so instead of looking for the problem I deleted the games, thinking it was something with the game, because it only crashed when I played Sims. 2nd, after reinstalling everything again, and starting all over, I found out it was something wrong with my computer, it wouldn't start. So I bought a new one, and started all over for the 3rd time!!

I'm sorry to say, but I think the only thing you could do is start all over.
I wish you all the luck in the world, and hope to reading about a new Crystal Bay soon!

  2. Thanks Tanja! It won't be Crystal Bay though......I can't save any of the characters so if I do start over, it will be a whole new hood with new sims. My goodness, recreating a whole hood? UGH! When I was playing with Pleasantview, I had a downtown area that I called LaQuest Beach.......I've always like that name and was about to add a shopping district to Crystal Bay with the same name.....all those cute little babies....gone.....sigh

  3. Since you're already at the throw-away point, I wonder, what might happen if you copied your character files over to another neighborhood, and changed their neighborhood number to match? Would they show up there? At least if not usable, in a way you could extract them? Maybe something to try before you scrap it all.

Wow, that's so weird how your neighborhood file got corrupted. Is the backup neighborhood file also small like that?

  4. Laura - the back up isn't as small but it's smaller than it should be. I have no idea how it could have gotten that way. It never crashed or anything so I don't get it. I started on a new hood on my lunch break. If I move over the character files, where would I find the sims I want to use? I guess I could access them in SimPE and package them so they would show up in my downloaded sims file......I'm going to try that out and see if it works...thanks for the idea!

  5. I was wondering the same thing as Laura. Maybe you should try to create a new hood instead that is the same hood number as CB, then copy the contents of the character file over and see if SimPE will read it. That way you won't have to mess with renaming any files.

  6. Ah, yes, Lunar's idea is better, lol! Do that, a new neighborhood with the same number.

There isn't any way to know which character file belongs to which Sim unless you can access it with SimPe, so I'd just copy all of them.

  7. Gah, I can't believe this has happened to you again! I really hope Lunar's idea works for you. :\

  8. I moved the characters folder over after creating a new hood and simpe recognized it, but all the characters are listed as unknown with the Mr. Potato Head picture so I can't tell who's who........I don't know what else to do....

  9. If you're able to use the SimSurgery feature to extract them from SimPE, they'll show up in Body Shop and CAS. At least then you could look at them and possibly remake them and start over that way, even if you can't fix the hood.

  10. The sims aren't named. I can see the files in SimPE but they are no names and no pictures. They are all listed as unknown so I don't know who's who....

  11. I know you've decided to start again but I meant that if you were able to click on one of these unknown Sims and extract them with SimPE (whether they're named or not), theoretically they'd show up in CAS and Body Shop. You'd be able to see who they were once you had them in CAS.

Of course, I've never tried to extract an unknown Sim and it's possible that it wouldn't work anyway but I thought it may have been worth a shot. :\
